Increased export earnings and product development opportunities are expected from a strategic alliance between hi-tech industrial electronic manufacturers PDL Electronics Ltd. and Vectek Electronics Ltd.
The Hawkes Bay based companies, New Zealand’s only manufacturers of variable speed drives, have formed the alliance to develop international markets for their world-class product ranges.
PDL’s Chief Executive Officer Mark Stewart said the alliance would see PDL manufacturing and distributing the standard AC motor control products of both companies under the PDL brand.
“As the companies will no longer be competing in the drives market, they will be able to coordinate their valuable research and development resources to develop New Zealand products for international markets,” he said.
PDL’s Group General Manager Electronics David O’Donoghue says the alliance fits the PDL Group’s new focus on higher technology products. “With both companies sited in Hawkes Bay, it makes sense to work more closely together using the combined talents of our engineering teams as well as our complimentary manufacturing and marketing strengths,” Mr. O’Donoghue said.
“It will speed up our product development cycles and mean we can bring new products to market much sooner.” Mr. O’Donoghue said the alliance is expected to greatly enhance the strong growth rates that have always been achieved by PDL and Vectek.
“We’re expecting further expansion of both companies. Product specialisation will allow us to optimise the resources we have available to develop and market world class electronic products.”
Vectek would concentrate on the export development of their innovative power quality products and continue their specialised drive projects such as the electric bus drive systems.
PDL Electronics are part of the PDL Group, and is the largest manufacturer of motor speed control equipment in the Southern Hemisphere, exporting its range throughout Europe, North and South America, Asia, Australia and South Africa.
Its hi-tech manufacturing operation in Hawkes Bay, employs over 200 staff, and includes a variety of computer controlled assembly and testing equipment to produce the high quality products demanded internationally. A research and development team of 28 produces innovative products to satisfy customer demand.
