Sales of the Microdrive Elite products have spearheaded dramatic marketing successes for the company and provided the impetus for a major expansion of the company's Napier-based operations. The expansion of the Microdrive Elite range from 31A to 46A is due for release in New Zealand at the end of this month and includes three new models. The new models are larger versions of the now successfully launched Microdrive Elite series (2.5A -22.5A). The larger products are the result of on-going design work since the remarkable successes of 1996. The 31A to 46A range will incorporate the same features as the existing Microdrive Elite range, but with greater output power available. Oversized power terminals are provided for ease of termination of large power cables. Features provided will include:
- Multiple inputs via two software configurable 4-20mA, 0-20mA, 0-10V, 0+/-10V analogue inputs.
- 2 analogue outputs, similarly configurable.
- Full CE Mark of approval.
- Fibre optics serial input-output ports permitting passing of precise, high speed signals in a noise immune format (useful for speed/torque information). Can also pass start/stop/trip/reset commands between drives.
- IP54 enclosure enables the drive to be installed in harsh industrial environments without the need for filtering the ambient air.
Many of the features incorporated in the Microdrive Elite series were the result of PDL's response to specified requirements of their customers. It is no accident that the Elite series looks very much like a PC tower - customers' requests included a drive with plenty of space to carry out terminations, ease of set-up and a bookshelf-style cabinet design permitting wider choice of location for the drives. Customisation of the new drives includes making them configurable via an ordinary PC using a Microsoft Windows launched program called VistaTM. The models in the range also boast three microprocessors as standard - the main control processor, the display processor, and the softcharge phase control processor. Following on from the successful launches of 1996, PDL Electronics will be releasing a number of new products over the next 12 months, said Mr O'Donoghue, General Manager. As with Xtravert and the Microdrive Elite series, the products will be more cost effective, easier to build, with more features and higher reliability and performance.
"Behind PDL Electronics' success is a dedicated and professional team of people," emphasises Mr O'Donoghue. "A team that is well positioned to secure PDL Electronics' as leaders in their field well into the new millennium."
