PDL Electronics has developed innovative solutions for motor bearing current-related problems.
Premature bearing failures on large motors can occur if adequate precautions are not taken at the design and installation stage. PDL has conducted extensive research on the topic and can offer several motor solutions.
In most applications the preferred solution is an insulated bearing or bearing housing, coupled with a suitable shaft grounding system. However this solution cannot be used in a hazardous area.
PDL have developed a Motor Voltage Optimizer Filter (MVO) (patent pending) using active cancellation techniques to eliminate the problematic common mode voltage.
The first MVO's were installed at Orica Vinyls (Australian Vinyls), Laverton, Melbourne, Australia. The motors affected were installed within a restricted area (flameproof) prohibiting the installation of shaft grounding system and an insulated bearing. The installation of the 660Amp MVO filters has eliminated previous current related motor bearing failures. |
